Stringy Bark & timber

From his property in Mandurang, within the Box-Ironbark forest, Andre has been using local timbers in his artwork.

Recently, while processing stringybark trees and removing their bark, he became inspired by the material’s strength, texture, and beauty. This discovery led to a six-week exploration of this wonderfully versatile material, which has been used for many thousands of years by First Nations people.

The forms developed organically as the bark was wound, woven, and knotted together. As the series evolved, Andre explored the idea of creating pods and nests as potential habitat for local wildlife.
